Numerical Investigation of Different Core Topologies in Sandwich-Structured Composites Subjected to Air-Blast Impact

Air-blast loading is a serious threat to military and civil vehicles, buildings, containers, cargo. Applications of sandwich-structured composites have attracted increasing interest in modern lightweight design the construction dynamic regimes due their high resistance against blast ballistic impacts. The functional properties such are determined by interplay face sheet material employed core topology. topology most important parameter affecting structural behavior sandwich composites. Therefore, this contribution presents thorough numerical investigation different topologies subjected loading. Special emphasis put on prismatic lattice displaying auxetic classical non-auxetic deformation characteristics order illustrate beneficial topologies. Their responses, elastic plastic deformations, failure mechanisms, energy absorption capabilities numerically analyzed compared. studies performed means commercial finite element code ABAQUS/Explicit, including model for failure.
